Spider-Man Comics Magazine #3 - May 1987

sgOk, after one good issue with Flexographic printing, this issue is a classic example of everything that was wrong with the process: splotchy colors, dropped lines, and, as always, the eye-gouging colors. Unfortunately, Marvel would stick with Flexographic printing for the remainder of the series, dooming an entire readership to a future of corrective-lense wearing.

The Lee/Romita issues of Amazing Spider-Man included are: "The Brand of the Brainwasher", "O, Bitter Victory", and "What A Tangled Web We Weave"

...there's not even that Daily Bugle page included, instead we get a Kingpin-up(ha!) that's just a shot of him lifted from a cover. I'm losing faith here, Marvel!

I think they put these digests together in the basement at Marvel. Notice the pose of Spidey here is the exact same one as on the first issue, just two months prior!!! It's just inverted. And it was an image used a lot on merchandise as well!

Compared to DC's great digest covers, these were disappointing.

I liked them well enough just because at the time, I was Spider-Man crazy and this was a cheap way to read classic stories.

They did feel more phoned in than the DC digests however, even back then I noticed that.

Not trying to be cranky, but I really didn't like these. I had been following the chronological Spidey reprints in Marvel Tales ever since they reprinted Amazing Fantasty #15. When they took those reprints and dropped them here, I felt really gyped.

I probably would have been more into them if I hadn't been following the full size, better quality Marvel Tales.
